The club required a site that would reflect the excitement and pace of our sport. From the very start of planning and user testing to the final output we’ve been extremely impressed with Donald’s level of knowledge and input throughout. Hundredbears has produced a slick, dynamic site that we can grow with and then some!
D. Hutton, Digital Media Manager - Caledonian Crushers WRC

Asked by The Caledonian Crushers, Scotland’s only Wheelchair Rugby league team to design a new web site and
help set up and advise on relevant social media channels.

‘The Crushers’ had a live site that was performing adequately but looked functional and un-inspiring, was not responsive with tablet and mobile and was struggling with search engine visibility.

The priorities for the project were a design that reflected the Clubs character, appeared friendly and engaging enough to encourage new members and ultimately performed a number of essential roles in communicating with fans, team members, volunteers and sponsors.

UX RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

Working initially with the digital media officer at the club, a number of planning and research meetings were conducted aimed at understanding the Clubs fund-raising and awareness strategies, the type of members and sponsors they wished to encourage and what channels best suited this approach.

A series of UI sketches leading on to interactive wireframe prototypes were produced.

Rapid ‘guerrilla’ style testing (A/B and Useability) of the prototype wireframes and initial designs were carried out in Glasgow. From this point the UI design was finalised.

The designs were then coded and integrated with the WordPress CMS.

Google +, YouTube Facebook and Twitter accounts were either set up or re-branded with the new design.

Results

Within the short time since launch of the new site, traffic to the web site as increased by approx 35% to an average of 3000 unique visits a month.

Visibility of the web site via search engines has markedly improved, with the site ranking top or very high on a number of relevant search criteria.

The improved on-line exposure has resulted in the club recruiting 6 new players to the team and a host of new volunteers. The club have since appeared on Scottish radio and UK television.
