We brought Donald in to the Caravan Club because as we needed someone who could work under pressure but not compromise on quality. Donald has a very pragmatic approach to projects and brings a wealth of design and UX experience which is hard to find.
Andrew Morris, Senior Digital Media Manager, The Caravan Club

The Caravan Club is an organisation with approximately 1 million members throughout the world, 900 UK staff and a turnover of over £100 million a year. The original Caravan Club website had grown rapidly over a number of years with an interface that was difficult to navigate, outdated content and generally a site lacking in inspiration or aspirational values. The complex IA and poor user journeys were making it hard for visitors to find relevant content and the transactional parts of the site were in decline.

A complete overhaul of the user interface was required including all transactional interface elements

Visual Design (UI), Development

The Caravan Club had already produced an in-depth review of content including and a well developed set of IA wireframes when I was brought in to provide the front-end design.

Two initial visual (UI) design routes were explored and one design taken forward as final version. This route was developed into a comprehensive design layout that included styles for every visual element on the website.

The completed design work was coded into responsive templates to the required specifications of the internal IT division responsible for integrating the interface with the web site’s existing CMS.

Finally asked to work on-site as an ’embedded’ designer / developer with the development team on the final production sprint to make sure the design was integrated correctly and worked exactly as intended.

After site launch, a number of branding elements were created for various on-line channels and finally, an on-line styleguide with associated CSS of all graphic assets was produced.

Additional work after the launch of the new site included the re-design of the Caravan Club’s caravan site booking interface for tablet and mobile channels. Initial wireframes were produced followed by final Photoshop designs and development of responsive HTML/CSS templates for integration by the in-house development team.
